The official count of Mexico’s presidential election has confirmed the victory of PRI candidate Enrique Pena Nieto.

With just over 99 percent of the ballot boxes counted as of 9 p.m Thursday, more than half of the recounted votes had Pena Nieto with 38 percent. In second place was leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador with more than 31 percent.

That gave Pena Nieto a lead of more than 3.3 million votes. Lopez Obrador alleged Pena Nieto’s Institutional Revolutionary Party had engaged in vote-buying. The ruling-party candidate Josefina Vazquez Mota who came third also said that campaign spending violations had marred the vote, although she stopped short of challenging the legitimacy of the outcome.
