After 4 days and 4 nights’ rescue efforts, 8 miners have been rescued. 2 have been confirmed dead. The rescued miners are now in hospital receiving treatment.

From mine shaft to the orthopedic surgery ward of Leiyang People’s Hospital, 7 of the 8 miners are in stable condition and being kept under observation. But one miner has been badly injured, and has been transferred to another hospital for specialized treatment.

Liao Xiaoyang, Vice Director of People’s Hospital of Leiyang, said, "The miner might have suffered a blow underground. Inspection shows that he has several broken ribs. One has affected his lungs. He is short of breath."

On receiving word of the accident, the hospital got ready to receive the miners.

Liao Xiaoyang, Vice Director of People’s Hospital of Leiyang, said, "We have prepared enough wards, and all equipment is in place. As this is a coal mine accident, we also prepared warm water and towels to clean them first, to better treat their wounds."

The rescued miners are now in hospital receiving treatment.

The coal mine flooded on Wednesday when 40 miners were working underground. Two dozen escaped. 16 were trapped in the pit. Managers of the mine failed to report the accident as required, delaying rescue efforts for at least 12 hours. The mine owner is in police custody.

The bodies of two miners were found on Sunday. Life detection efforts are continuing for the six men still missing.
