Swiss pharmaceutical firm, Roche, is being investigated by UK and EU watchdogs for alleged failure to disclose known cases of side effects. Some 80-thousand documents detailing side effects from the company’s medicines in the US over the past 15 years, are thought to have been withheld from European regulators.

15-thousand people are reported to have died while taking Roche medicines, with 65-thousand other patients suffering side effects.

At least eight drugs are involved, including treatments for breast and bowel cancer, hepatitis B, and skin and eye conditions. Five are available in China, with some having been sold for more than 10 years.

China’s State food and drug administration says there’s currently no evidence of adverse effects on patients in China. But it’s demanding that Roche explain the situation in full.
