The UN Security Council has been briefed on the crisis in Syria by international envoy Kofi Annan. Western powers, including the United Kingdom and the United States, say they want Chapter 7 sanctions included in the plan and are drafting a resolution. Full story >>

For more on the UN Security Council meeting on Syria, we now cross over to our correspondent Nathan King at the UN headquarters in New York.

Q1: How is the Security Council reacting to Annan's briefing?

Q2: We know Britain, France and the US are proposing a draft resolution which threatens sanctions if the Syrian government and opposition fail to carry out a political transition and implement Annan’s peace plan. Have the UN Security Council discussed such a resolution in any depth?
