At least 6 dead as torrential rain hits Kyushu in Japan

At least six people have been killed and 20 others are missing as torrential rain hit the southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu.

The flood has forced thousands of people to evacuate on Thursday. According to local media, heavy rain caused several landslides in Aso City. While the surrounding region of Kumamoto Prefecture saw hourly rainfall between 100 and 120 millimeters on Thursday morning. Weather authorities warned that heavy rainfall may trigger further floods and landslides in coastal areas of western Japan. They also said parts of the areas may see hourly rainfall of about 100 millimeters by Friday morning.
