Nine policemen have been killed in a terrorist attack in Eastern Pakistan.

Officials say at least half a dozen Taliban gunmen opened fire on a housing compound in Lahore. The police they killed were training to become prison guards. The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. They say it was revenge for the police torture of their fighters in prison.

The officers attacked were recruited from a northwest province, a one-time base for the Taliban. Police say they suspect the gunmen who attacked the housing compound were the same ones who killed seven soldiers and a policeman at an army camp on Monday about 160 kilometers northwest of Lahore.

Gunmen attacked a compound housing policemen in eastern
Pakistan Thursday, killing at least 9 and wounding 8,
according to officials.
