Tight security ahead of London Olympics

In London, Olympic officials are dealing with the last minute gaps in security due to a private security firm’s failure to provide enough staff. Some three and a half thousand British troops are being called in to help fill the gap in security and police have been put on notice that they may need to help fill the breach.

In an effort to increase security ahead of the Olympics...a series of additional airspace restrictions around London and south-east England are now in place. In addition, Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets and Sea King helicopters have been deployed on the outskirts of London. Britain’s biggest warship, HMS Ocean, has taken up position in the

Anti-aircraft missiles have also been placed around the Olympic park, some in residential districts... even on people’s homes. Officials say up to 20 thousand soldiers will be deployed to provide security for the Games.
