China, Africa discuss documents for FOCAC

Chinese and African senior officials have held a closed-door meeting to pave the way for the fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. They have reached an agreement on the conference’s two documents, set to be released at Thursday’s Ministerial Conference.

Senior officials from China and 50 African countries spent the whole day on Wednesday discussing the agenda of the China-Africa cooperation forum to be held in Beijing on Thursday.

They have agreed to release the Beijing Declaration and the Beijing Action Plan.

Lu Shaye, director of general of African Division, MFA., said, "Today we had a smooth consultation and discussions about the two documents, we have unanimously passed the draft amendments and submitted them to the Fifth Ministerial Conference."

The Beijing Declaration is a political based document, while the Beijing Action Plan provides a vision of cooperation in all fields such as investment, finance, peace and security. Leaders have high hopes for both of the documents’ effects on the region.

Awake Ali Kullance, minister counselor of The Somalia Embassy in China, said, "We hope to see economic exchange and cultural exchanges. China is one of the most important countries to our region. So we are eager and keen and optimistic about our relations. Of course, we welcome opportunities created by China for Somali, for change and development and of course learning from its success.. "

Mahboub Maalim, secretary general of Inter-government Authority on Development, said, "There has been a lot of presence from the Chinese goverment and its people and various programs in our region, particularly in the much needed areas like infrastucture. This is a great opportunity for us to dialogue further and deepen our cooperative arrangements. "

Under the theme of "building on past achievements and opening up new prospects for the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership", the two sides have every reason to expect a more abundant future.

Reporter: "This close-door meeting has been concluded ahead of schedule. Ministers from more than 50 African countries have reached consensus on the two conference outcomes--Beijing Declaration and Beijing Action Plan. The Ministerial Conference will be the first of such kind in the second decade, Chinese President Hu Jintao will announce more new measures to boost Sino-African ties.”
