Days after Beijing witnessed its deadliest downpour in decades, the Chinese capital is expecting more heavy rain. The Beijing Meteorological Bureau has released a blue rainstorm alert. Heavy rain is expected to start on Wednesday afternoon and last until Thursday morning.

Forecasters say they expect areas in the east of Beijing, including the districts of Daxing, Tongzhou and Pinggu, to be worst affected. Some areas of the city may see as much as 50 millimetres of rain. Forecasters say there are already large swathes of water-saturated soil due to Saturday’s record downpour. Although the coming rain is not expected to be as heavy, risk of landslides is still high.

A yellow geological alert has been released. And forecasters have warned authorities to take precautionary measures and are warning people to stay indoors.
