A self-professed military coordinator of the rebel Free Syrian Army has said that President Bashar al-Assad’s forces intend to use chemical weapons to target rebel positions within the country. The comment comes a day after a Syrian official warned the international community it had chemical weapons and would use them in the event of any foreign aggression.

Ahmed Kassem, FSA military coordinator, said, "We know the chemical weapons have been distributed along the border and at airports. The aim is not to protect the country against foreign powers as claimed by President of the Syrian National Council, Abdulbaset Sieda. We know the purpose is to bomb the rebels because the chemical weapons have already been deployed by plane and have been moved close to the airports."
