Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al- Muallem has arrived in Tehran for talks with senior Iranian officials.

In a joint press conference with Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi, Muallem accused armed opposition groups in Syria of not being committed to peace. He also said violence in Syria had increased, because regional powers were providing backing to opposition fighters.

Muallem is next scheduled to hold talks with the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili. The talks will focus on recent developments in Syria as well as bilateral relations between Tehran and Damascus.
