South Africa's "Blade Runner" athlete, Oscar Pistorius, is set to make history by running in the London Olympics. He will be the first double-amputee to compete in the Games.

Sheer willpower. Already a Paralympic gold medallist, Pistorius was born without fibula bones due to a congenital defect, and lost his legs at 11 months.

It never stopped him from playing sports--even rugby--with prosthetics.

South Africa's "Blade Runner" athlete, Oscar Pistorius, is set to make history
by running in the London Olympics. He will be the first double-amputee to compete
in the Games.

His journey has been long and rife with hurdles as he runs with carbon-fibre blades that often cause blisters and rub his stumps raw.

He says, "Obviously my starts are a bit slow for me to run in the first leg. Being the fastest athlete in my country, I can definitely do but, as far as the performance of a relay team you need to run a very tactical race and so. I have never been a danger to myself or to anybody else. I mean, I train every single day in the same lane often as my counterpart, my training partner, and I have never ever once had an incident."

Known as "Blade Runner", Pistorius is expected to compete in the individual 400 meter and the 4x400 meter relay on South Africa's team.

It's going to be a busy summer because he is also expected to compete in the Paralympic Games, defending his three world records in the 100, 200, and 400 meter races.
