Chinese official pays tribute to Liu Xiang

After Liu Xiang crashed out of the 110 meter hurdles in London on Tuesday, Chinese State councillor Liu Yandong immediately assembled China's Olympic delegation. She extended greetings and encouragement to Liu Xiang on behalf of the central committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the State Council.

Liu Yandong paid tribute to Liu Xiang’s strong will and persistence, calling it the best representative of sporting spirit and the Olympic spirit. She expressed her appreciation for Liu Xiang’s great contribution to sports and Olympics. Liu Xiang is set to receive good medical treatment and it's hoped he will recover as soon as possible.

Liu Yandong also added that the Chinese people were moved by Liu Xiang’s will power. In the qualifier for the Men’s 110M hurdles, Liu Xiang fell at the first hurdle, crashing heavily into it with his left leading leg. But he earned a rousing ovation from the crowd as he hopped down the track to symbolically cross the finish line.
