The 2012 national paragliding championship contest is being held in the Kanas Lake area in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

Listed as one of the top tourism sites in China, Kanas Lake is famous for its poetic land view and breezy wind. The environment is similar to the Alps, the origin place of paragliding when it was invented by a French in 1894.

A competitor said, "it’s my first time joining this competition. The weather condition is perfect for paragliding, and, of course, I love the beautiful sight here. "

I’m at the launching platform and the competitors are spreading their paragliders. It’s the third and largest paragliding competition held in Kanas. However, the officials from General Administration of Sport are expecting more.

Wang Yongli, director of Aviation DEPT. 2, General Administration of Sport, said, "it’s the third time the championship contest is held in Kanas Lake area. This contest represents the top level of Chinese paragliding sport. We are preparing to host Asian or even world level contest here in the future. "

66 competitors from 13 provinces join in this three-day contest for championships in 4 categories, including single and tandem, set-direction and distance contests.
