Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has said that Kofi Annan’s peace plan for Syria is still alive even after his resignation from the post of the UN special envoy to Syria.

Salehi made the remarks at a press conference after a meeting on Syria held in Tehran. He said the meeting was aimed at finding a way within the framework of Annan’s six-point peace plan to settle the Syrian crisis. He maintained that international community has the responsibility to solve the country’s ongoing dispute.

Envoys from more than 30 countries, including Russia, China, Iraq and Jordan, attended the meeting. The one-day forum is unlikely to result in any international consensus, but shows Iran’s resolve to stand by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
