China gains 38 gold medals at London Olympics

At the London Games, China has gained 38 gold medals. While China continues to show dominance in sports that traditionally strong in, such as table tennis, gymnastics, and diving, it’s also clinched ten golds in sports that it hasn’t excelled in, in the past.

China is now excelling in a wider range of events, including swimming, track and field, and cycling.

On August 12th, Cao Zhongrong, wons a silver medal in the men’s Modern Pentathlon. This is China’s first Olympic medal in the event.

On August 10th, China beat Spain, a strong competitor, to claim the silver in Synchronised Swimming with 194 point zero one, the best that China’s achieved so far. In the women’s duets, Huang Xuechen and Liu Ou won the bronze medal with a composition on the theme ’dragon’.

In fencing, China took two golds and one bronze, the best results in the Games’ history. China claimed the history-making golds in both the Women’s Team Epee and the Men’s Individual Foil.

In track cycling, China won the silver in the Women’s Team Sprint after a controversial judgement deprived China of the gold. In the qualification, the team of Guo Shuang and Gong Jinjie twice set new records for the event. All these show that China is making its way into the top level in such events.

And China’s swimming has stunned the whole world. Sun Yang twice claimed gold in the Men’s 400 meters and 1500 meters freestyle, setting a new world record in the latter.

China’s Ye Shiwen, only 16 years old, set a new record and took the gold in the Women’s 400 meters individual medley. Later she won gold again in the 200 meters medley.
