Closing ceremony: Massive fire breaks out in London

08-13-2012 04:17 BJT

A massive fire has broken out in East London, not far from the Olympic Park. It is said to be the biggest fire in the UK capital for several years.

Over 200 firefighters and 40 fire engines were sent to the scene. It broke out in a recycling plant, and the London fire brigade says the whole of the single storey building was on fire, causing a plume of smoke that can be seen across the city.

No injuries have been reported and officials say the fire will not affect the closing ceremony of the London games. The cause of the incident is not yet known.
