Four people have been injured in a series of bomb explosions during India’s Independence Day celebrations in the northeast state of Manipur. The first explosion was reported in the Thoubal district at around 8 a.m. local time.

Two other blasts were later reported in the state capital of Imphal near a parade ground where celebration activities were being prepared. In the neighboring state of Meghalaya, a shutdown was staged by the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council.

The militant group is reported to conduct hit-and-run raids from its hideouts in neighboring Bangladesh and has pushed for a sovereign Khasi homeland in the state of Meghalaya.
