Chinese embassy delegates visit arrested activists

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister, Zhang Zhijun, has reiterated China's demand for the unconditional and immediate release of the 14 activists arrested on the Diaoyu Islands, in a phonecall to his Japanese counterpart.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Japan has arrived in Okinawa to visit the activists and negotiate with Japan's officials.

Aug. 16, 2012. Japanese police arrested 14 Chinese activists on suspicion of "illegal
entry" after seven of them landed on one of the Diaoyu islands Wednesday afternoon. Five
Chinese activists arrived in Naha, Okinawa on Thursday. Fu Ying, China's vice foreign
minister, urgently summoned Japanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa and made a phone call
to her Japanese counterpart Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi on the matter. Fu reiterated China's
sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands and the affiliated islets, and demanded the Japanese
side guarantee the safety of the Chinese citizens and free them immediately without any
