Syrian refugees at a border camp in Jordan, celebrated Eid on Sunday longing to go back home. As Muslims worldwide celebrated the festival marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, refugees said the escalating violence in Syria and poor living conditions in the desert leave them with nothing to celebrate.

Syrian Refugee, Zaatari Camp, Jordan said, "First of all, there is no Eid at all. Bombardment is continuous in Syria, in all villages. We crawled to come here. There are military attacks all the time. God saved us until we arrived here. The situation is miserable and there is no Eid."

Syrian Refugee, Zaatari Camp, Jordan said, "Eid in Syria is nicer. Here is too dusty. How can we celebrate? Celebrate with dust? Swim in dust?"

Many of the reufgees who end up in Jordan come from the Syrian cities of Deraa, Homs and Hama. The U.N. refugee agency said more than 170,000 Syrians have been registered in neighbouring countries, also including Iraq, Lebanon and Turkey. Some 3,500 Syrians fleeing the northern areas of Aleppo, Azaz, Idlib and Latakia reached Turkey’s Hatay and Kilis provinces between Tuesday and Wednesday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the army bombarded neighbourhoods in Aleppo. Rebels hold several districts in the country’s commerical hub and have tried to push back an army counter-offensive.
