Marathon takes centre stage on final day of 2012 Paralympics

On the final day of competition, four of the six gold medals were awarded in the marathon categories. Brazil’s Tito Sena won the men’s T46 event, in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 40 seconds. Spain took silver, while Belgium grabbed bronze.

In the T12 category, Spain’s Alberto Suarez Laso won with a time of 2 hours, 24 minutes and 50 seconds. The host nation’s David Weir took gold in the men’s T54 event, while the women’s went to the United States’ Shirley Reilly.
