A senior NATO official says the alliance does not believe a military attack on Syria would bring any improvement there.

Manfred Lange, Chief of Staff of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, says there is no good case for military action and the political process must be pursued. He says that with little prospect of action at the United Nations, the Alliance has no military plans on Syria.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Egyptian magazine Al-Ahram, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad insisted the rebels would not prevail in their war against the government. He said he was open to negotiations and a diplomatic solution.
