Beijing is one of China’s biggest centers for migrant workers. Earning and saving money takes up most of their time, so looking after their children can sometimes be a problem. A group of students from majoring in education realized this and set up a free pre-school center for the children, staffed by volunteers.

Taking good care of pre-school children isn’t easy for most migrant workers in China.

Volunteer Guo Yingwei said, "The parents are busy with their work and don’t have enough time for the kids’ education. But they really want their children to have good prospects."

This was the initial motivation for the volunteers to provide free education for the children.

Classes were given in a yard near a market where parents work.

Besides teaching them pre-school knowledge, playing games with the kids takes up most of the time. The volunteers invented different games to teach the children how to protect themselves from danger.

Volunteer Fan Yanru said, "The lessons are figured out according to the children’s needs. They should decide what to learn. "

The pre-school center is growing, with more and more volunteers joining in. 73-year-old Wang Jingyan is one of them. She has been doing her part here for the past 8 years.

The center and its teaching method has also been noticed by Beijing authorities. They plan to send nearly a hundred pre-school teachers here to learn their education concept of playing and learning.
