The names of those who died in the landslide in southwest China’s Yunnan Province have been released.

18 primary students and one villager were killed. The students were taking classes to make up for time lost as a result of an earthquake last month. The local government has compensated each family with 20-thousand RMB. Psychological counselling is also being offered to those who need it.

The local Civil Affairs department says it will provide special care for those who are living below the poverty line.

According to experts from the Ministry of Land and Resources, the landslide was caused by the earthquake last month and constant rain. The local government is now checking all the nearby areas to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.

5.7 magnitude earthquake hits SW China
