The chairman of the Japan Business Federation, Hiromasa Yonekura has met with Shinzo Abe, the leader of Japan’s opposition Liberal Democratic Party, requesting the LDP to ease tensions with China.

The two leaders have held the first round of policy talks. Yonekura expressed concerns about the tense relations with China and South Korea. He said the worsening Sino-Japan relation has brought significant impact on Japan’s enterprises. And he expressed his expectation that the LDP would make efforts to forge better relations with China.

Japanese media reported that Yonekura will also meet with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda in the near future, calling this a rare move for him to first meet with the opposition leader. It may indicate that the economic circles expect the LDP to win the next election.
