In Spain, the Nationalist party is celebrating their victory in the regional election in Basque, with the separatist Euskal Herria Bildu just coming in second.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy’s right-leaning party retained power in his home region of Galicia, despite a recession and biting austerity measures.

Official results of Sunday’s election showed Rajoy’s Popular Party captured 41 seats in the 75-seat Galician parliament. The Bildu coalition got 21 seats. The Leftist party Bildu, also organised a concert at La Casilla in Bilbao to celebrate their strong performance in the election.

Bildu is pursuing an independent Basque homeland through peaceful means. Analysts say, the regional vote gave a boost to the Prime Minister’s government as the country is struggling against its debt crisis.
