The US’ Northeast has begun the long road to recovery following the devastation left by Super storm Sandy as residents in New York and New Jersey returned to their homes.

The massive storm killed at least 64 people across nine states and left millions without power. Some businesses and services have begun to reopen and Wall Street is trading again. In New York, buses are available and limited subway services will resume Thursday. JFK and Newark airport have reopened. The latest estimates suggest the cost of the storm could total as much as 45 billion US dollars.

But analysts say spending on reconstruction and recovery could pump an almost equal amount right back into the economy, driving a rally for some stocks as the markets reopen.
