Looting emerges after Sandy

US media are reporting cases of looting and theft in New York and New Jersey as local residents still reel with the damage left by Sandy.

New York Post reported that many stores and gas stations in New York’s Rockaway Peninsula and Coney Island have been rifled. The newspaper reported that New York City police have beefed up patrols in Sandy hit areas, and carried out raids across the city.

So far 12 suspects have been arrested. Police also warned of burglaries, where some looters have dressed up as power line repair staff.
