French president Francois Hollande says his country will work hard to defeat instability in Lebanon. His comments came during talks with the Lebanese president in Beirut.

Hollande said France will make concerted efforts to guarantee Lebanon’s independence, security and unity. He says France will assist in the inquiry into the assassination of Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan, who was killed by a car bomb on October 19th.

The assassination of the intelligence official sparked clashes between pro and anti-Syrian groups. The French president also pledged that both Paris and the European Union will help Lebanon deal with more than 100 thousand Syrian refugees.
