The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Hong Lei, has said China is willing to resolve the Diaoyu dispute through negotiations, but would never give in regarding sovereignty. The statement was made at a press briefing on Monday.

This comes after the Director-general of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Luo Zhaohui, met with his Japanese counterpart to discuss the Diaoyu Islands issue. It will pave ways for the next round of talks between the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the two countries.

Hong Lei, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, said, "In past talks held with Japan, China has elaborated the government’s solemn stance over the Diaoyu Islands, as well as its firm will to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. We urge Japan to acknowledge and correct its mistake, and to make a real effort in their handling of this issue."
