Chen Deming, Chinese Commerce Minister, said, "Someone asked me, ’Are you entering a trade war with the United States?’ I said, ’No.’ I hope we can sit down and discuss and try our best not to get involved in a trade war. But I must say, when others attack our businesses and invade our interests; I have to protect our businesses."

"We very much hope that the new Obama administration can do what they promised and increase exports of high-quality goods to China. ’Stairs can take people up, but they can also take people down.’ Secondly, we hope they can decrease or stop trade protectionism, bring about liberalization in trade. This is beneficial to U.S economic growth."
