Zambia’s Kasanka National Park hosts the largest fruit bat migration in the world every November and December. The spectacular sight attracts large numbers of tourists from around the globe.
The fruit bats travel in excess of 2,000 kilometers in only two to three weeks. The bats originate from the forests of central Africa and migrate to Kasanka to feed on fruits in the Miombo woodlands.
The migration takes center stage at Kasanka National Park during this period. It’s the largest mammal migration and concentration in the world. And it is the only place to see the spectacle on the planet.
Though it is not widely known, it will surely continue to attract more international tourists each year and has the potential to provide a boost to the Zambian tourism industry.
