Barbara Morgan was an elementary school teacher before being recruited to NASA’s Teacher in Space Project in 1985. She spent the next decade as the Teacher in Space Designee, conducting educational consulting for NASA.

In 1998, Morgan began her career as a full-time astronaut. After nearly ten more years of training and evaluation, Morgan finally gave her first lecture from space in August 2007. She taught students how to exercise and drink water in space via a video link from the International Space Station.

It was a fun lecture packed with scenes rarely seen on earth. At one point students burst into laughter as they saw red bubbles squeeze out of Morgan’s drink bag and begin to float everywhere.
