Two Chinese girls aged 16 and 17 killed in Asiana air crash

At least 2 passengers have been killed and 183 are injured. 49 of the passengers are reported to be in critical condition. The two deaths have been confirmed as Chinese girls aged 16 and 17.

The Asiana Boeing 777 crashed and burst into flames as it landed at San Francisco International Airport. Passengers were forced to use emergency slides. Flight 214 from Seoul was carrying 291 passengers and 16 crew members. Among the passengers were 141 Chinese, 77 South Koreans, 61 Americans, 3 Indians, 1 Vietnamese and 1 Japanese national.

According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, 30 students and 6 teachers from North China’s Shanxi Province, have all been confirmed safe. 30 students and 4 teachers from East China’s Zhejiang Province were also on board. One of the students is confirmed to be injured and another has yet to be reunited with their group. Investigators are so far divided over the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, South Korea has said it will conduct a joint investigation with the United States to discover the cause of the fatal crash and is sending a four-member team to San Francisco. Asiana Airlines, the operator of the plane has set up a task force team at its headquarters in Seoul to help relatives contact family members who were on board.
