First cross-strait peace forum to be held in Oct.

The spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office Yang Yi says that a cross-strait peace forum, the first of its kind, will be held in October. He also said the 9th Cross-Straits Economic Trade and Culture Forum will be held in the same month.

Yang Yi, Spokesman, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said, "I think holding the first cross-Strait peace forum conforms to the need of developing cross-strait relations. It provides an important platform for promoting cross-strait people-to-people exchanges and dialogue under the new situation."

Yang Yi said the first cross-strait peace forum will be held on October 11th and 12th in Shanghai. The forum’s theme is "Cross-Strait Peace, Common Development". Over 120 experts, scholars and representatives from both sides will attend the forum. Issues such as cross-strait mutual trust and a peace framework are expected to be discussed. Yang also said the ninth cross-strait Economic Trade and Culture Forum will be held on October 26th and 27th in Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The forum will be themed as "Promote exchange and cooperation, Revitalize the Chinese nation". The honorary chairman of the Kuomintang, Wu Po-hsiung will attend the forum.
