12-13-2013 20:53 BJT

At least 15 civilians have been killed after missiles fired by a US drone slammed into a convoy of vehicles traveling to a wedding party in central Yemen.

Yemeni security officials say Thursday’s attack took place in the city of Radda which is the capital of Bayda province. According to them, the wedding party which was travelling in a convoy of cars was mistaken for an Al-Qaeda target.

Ten people were killed immediately and another five who were injured, later died after being admitted to hospital. Five other people have been reported injured. The US embassy in Sanaa has not commented on the incident.

The US has stepped up drone strikes as part of a campaign against Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, regarded by Washington as the most active wing of the militant network.
