Thousands of migrant workers drive home on motorcycles

01-26-2014 14:39 BJT Special Report: 2014 Spring Festival |

Facing crowded public transport options, many have decided to find another way home. In Guangdong, some young men - most of them migrant workers whose hometowns are hundreds of kilometers away -- have chosen to go by motorcycle. Our reporter Su Yuting has been following the bikers. Earlier, she sent us this report from Zhaoqing city, a major gateway connecting Guangdong Province to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

"I am now in zhaoqing city. This area connects Guangdong and southwest hinterlands. Large exoduses of motorcycling migrants from the booming factory zone are passing through this city.

This year, one hundred thousand people are expected to drive home on motorbikes for the Spring Festival. For many migrant workers, it is often difficult to buy a train ticket during Spring Festival.

For some, the tickets are still a little bit expensive to afford. And many migrant workers live in rural mountainous villages, few vehicles can take them directly home. So it’s much cheaper and convenient for them driving home on motorbikes. " CCTV repoter Su Yuting reports from Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province.
