02-11-2014 14:34 BJT

Relations between Chinese mainland and Taiwan are expected to enter a new era when representatives from both sides begin a meeting in Nanjing.

As the first official who takes charge of Taiwan’s mainland affairs, Wang Yu-chi has said he will exchange views with the mainland on setting up a mechanism for direct communication between the two sides and the cross-strait situation. Analysts say the meeting will open an official channel between the two departments, that takes charge of Cross-Strait issues and promotes direct communication and interaction.
