The amphibious docking ship, with a crew of 1,000 and loaded with underwater detection equipment, arrived in the search area at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday. The Jinggangshan is searching in tandem with the Mianyang, a Chinese navy frigate, which arrived Monday.

China's navy says two other ships are expected to reach the area on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. A supply ship has been ordered to prepare to sail to the Gulf of Thailand. China’s satellite monitoring and control center in the city of Xi’an has also manoeuvred some 10 satellites with high-resolution cameras into orbit above the search area.

Dozens of ships and planes from 11 countries are searching waters near the last known location of Flight MH370. So far no wreckage of the downed aircraft has been found.
