The defending champion China took on South Korea in the second group stage of the Thomas Cup. The Chinese players worked to uphold their reputation as the top team with a shot to advance to the quarterfinals.

Olympic champion Lin Dan faced arch rival Park Sung-Hwan in the opening singles match, and the Chinese megastar dominated with a 21-18, 25-23 straight game win. And the world doubles champions Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng took on Jung Jae-Sung and Shin Baek-Cheol.

The Chinese pair took control and never looked back. Cai and Fu gave China a 2-match lead. Chen Jin upheld China's winning run by taking his match against Shon Wan-Ho to secure another quarterfinal spot.

According to the rules, China needed to complete all five matches, despite having won the series. Guo Zhendong and Xu Chen went to the net and lost their match. But Bao Chunlai defeated his opponent as China ended the series with South Korea 4-1.
