Munich are once again the toast of Bavaria after capturing their eighth domestic double after running Riot in the DFB Pokal Cup. Werder Bremen were the victims of a crushing performance from the league champions as they go in search of a historic treble.

Bayern were seeking their second trophy of the season just a week after winning the Bundesliga title for the 22nd time. Bayern were ahead in the 35th minute when Dutchman Arjen Robben converted a penalty after Werder's Per Mertesacker handled the ball in the area under pressure from Ivica Olic.

Croatia's Olic added a second in the 52nd minute when he poked in a corner at the near post.

It was three-nil after 62 minutes. A fine counter-attack saw Mark van Bommel send the ball into the path of Franck Ribery, who broke the offside trap before placing his shot into the net.

Werder's frustration boiled over 13 minutes later when their captain Torsten Frings was sent off for a second bookable offence after fouling Bastian Schweinsteiger. The German midfielder had the last laugh, poking his shot past goalkeeper to make it four nil and secure his side a league and cup double success.
