Hanson wins Mallorca Open

05-17-2010 10:34 BJT

Golfer Peter Hanson played himself into a tense showdown against Alejandro Canizares at the Mallorca Open on Sunday. The two engaged in a playoff to decide a winner in Spain.

Hansen started his final round with a birdie at the first hole, and followed with two more at the fifth and sixth to go out in 32.

But then, he hit problems at the 12th. Hanson's wedge from off the green looked like a fair shot. But replays showed he made a double hit, and he was docked with a penalty stroke.

An incredible birdie putt at the 17th moved Hanson to six under. He scored a par at the last hole to set up the play-off. In the end...Hanson used a simple tap in to win his third European Tour title.
