Usain Bolt, the Olympic and world champion, in China for the first time since his Beijing Olympic heroics, was hoping to build on his excellent start to the season.

After running the fastest 100 metres of the year in 9.86 seconds in South Korea on Wednesday, Bolt now had the 200 metres in his sights.

Well ahead by the halfway stage, with the other competitors relegated to the status of "also-rans", Bolt cruised to a comfortable victory, crossing the line 10 metres clear of the field in 19.76 seconds.
