The French Open, the second Grand Slam event of the year, started under blue skies at Roland Garros on Sunday. We begin on the women's side, with Venus Williams in first round action, looking for her first major on clay.

The red clay of Roland Garros never has been William's best stage - her seven Grand Slam titles all came at Wimbledon or the US Open. At this year's French Open, She is assured of at least one more performance, thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 victory against former top-10 player Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the first round.

"Well, it feels good to be moving up the ranks, obviously, when you get to two of course the next dream is one. So that's definitely on my radar, but, you know, it's definitely great to be there. I feel like, you know, the players I'm ranked ahead of, I feel like, yeah, nice, whatever that means. I don't know what I'm saying." said Venus, the French Open 2nd Seed.
