Italy out, Paraguay qualify for the last 16

In the life-or-death final-round matches of the World Cup Group F, Slovakia beat Italy at 3-2, and Paraguay played to a scoreless tie with New Zealand.

A determined Slovakian team led Italy 1-0 at halftime. The world cup debutant opened scoring in the 25th minute, when Robert Vittek slide a shot into the corner with a low shot. In the 73rd minute, Robert Vittek got his second goal with a close-range finish from a right-wing cross. In the 81st minute, Antonio Di Natale got the first goal for Italy. Eight minutes later, Kamil Kopunek got the third goal for Slovakia. At last, Fabio Quagliarella got Italy's second goal.

Despite this, the defending champions have to go home. Meanwhile, Paraguay held on for a goalless tie with New Zealand. Paraguay qualifies for the knockout stage.
