It was another gloriously sunny day in south west London for the four men's quarter-finals at Wimbledon. But six-times champion and top seed Roger Federer of Switzerland crashed out.

The defending champion faced Tomas Berdych and the 12th seed from the Czech Republic won the opening set 6-4 before the Swiss top seed levelled by taking the second 6-3. However, the Berdych ran away with the third set 6-1 as the world number two, who had endured a shaky start to the grass court tournament, was outplayed by the tall Czech. Berdych finally completed his third career victory over the Swiss with a forehand winner for a 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-4 victory in two hours 35 minutes. The defeat means Federer will be absent from the men's final for the first time since 2002 when he lost in the first round.
