Zvonareva beats Pironkova into final

Defending Champion Serena Williams booked her place in her sixth Wimbledon final with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic. She will face Vera Zvonareva who beat Tsvetana Pironkova 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

21st seed Vera Zvonareva was first on court, facing world number 82, Tsvetana Pironkova, who got off to a good start breaking Zvonareva in the sixth game of the first set.

The 21st seed pushed Pironkova to deuce on her serve in game four of the second set, before breaking her in the sixth game following a pulsating rally on break point. Zvonareva taking the set 6-3 to level the match and steel a march on her opponent, breaking her in the first game of the decisive set.

The Russian then eased through the third set clinching a double break in the fifth game and confirming her place in the final with a blasting cross-court forehand that Pironkova was unable to reach.
