After winning the Bundesliga title last season, German champions Bayern Munich are back on home soil after many of their world cup stars returned to the training pitch ahead of the upcoming new season.

German internationals Philipp Lahm, Thomas Mueller and goalkeeper Joerg Butt were the first to enter the training ground while some 20 dedicated fans watched, several of them with their young children. According to the club, defender Daniel van Buyten sat out Monday's training after suffering a ligament strain picked up against a Wacher Burghausen.

Bayern Munich fan Thomas Wachtel said, "I think the beginning will be a little difficult because today is the first time that the Germany players are back and I guess the first two or three games will be tricky but then they will be playing in full force again."
