South Korean football fans looking to see superstar Lionel Messi in action firsthand have seen those hopes sidelined. Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola says star attraction Lionel Messi will not play in the Spanish team's pre-season friendly Wednesday evening against a South Korean all-star team.

Barcelona and Messi arrived in Seoul on Monday morning had held a joint presser with the South Korean team on Tuesday evening followed by a training session at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Messi had his first training session with the Catalans since the World Cup in Seoul on Tuesday. Messi's non-appearance will be a blow to the organizers who have already faced criticism for high ticket prices and agreeing to the absence of Barcelona's World Cup winning Spanish contingent. Coach Guardiola says that Messi has put on some weight and he is worried that if the players participates in the match in his present condition he might pick up an injury.
