The World Shooting Championships, continuing in Germany. And China's Zhang Jian had a golden opportunity in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol final as he looked to get the best of his rival, Russia's Alexei Klimov.

Chinese shooter Zhang entered into Saturday's final round in first place with the highest qualification score...taking a two point advantage into the final against his arch rival, the Russian Klimov.

The 24-year-old Zhang, who had finished in the spotlight at this year's World Cup in Sydney by winning a Silver medal, would lose out on the gold again. He closed out the final in second place with a total score of 785.6 points.

The result earns Zhang a qualifying spot at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

And it was Zhang's rival Klimov, ranked 8th in the world, who secured the gold medal with a winning score of 787.1 points...1.5 points better than the Chinese.

Zhangs teammate Li Yuehong finished in third place to win the bronze medal.
